Breakdance And Hip Hop And Power Training

Breakdance And Hip Hop

Breakdancing is considered as one of the significant elements that make up hip hop culture. Also known as breaking, b-boying, or b-girling, this street dance was developed in the 1970s among the African-American and Hispanic youths of South Bronx, New York. It is widely believed that breakdancing began as a means of rival street gangs to resolve differences or to set the location for rumbles. Others say it was an offshoot of or was heavily influenced by capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art/dance.

Breakdancing was brought into the mainstream through the proliferation of various dance groups, most notably Rock Steady Crew. Soul and funk legend James Brown also popularized the dance style with his high-energy performances. In the 1980s, breakdancing faded from pop culture and went back to being an underground phenomenon. It made a comeback in the 1990s and since then has become a fixture of pop culture.

There are no set routines or structures in breakdancing. Rather, dancers employ basic moves while embellishing them with more complex styles and power moves. Dancers could start off with the toprock, a relatively simple dance made up of any variation of steps performed while standing up. This serves as a warm-up in preparation for further acrobatic moves. The downrock, in contrast, is performed with the hands and feet on the floor. A common downrock move is the 6-step, which looks like walking in a circle while one hand touches the ground.

The basic moves lay the groundwork for power moves, which involve more difficult routines and require physical stamina. One of the more common power moves is the windmill. This requires dancers to spin from the upper back to the chest while twirling the legs around the body in a V-shape. The windmill is a tough move to perform and usually takes two to six months to learn.

Another power move is the flare, which involves swinging the legs around the stationary torso in continuous circles while the arms carry the weight of the whole body. In gymnastics where it originated, the flare is usually performed on a Pommel Horse but in breakdancing, it is done on the floor. The headspin and the jackhammer are also among the popular power moves. The latter is performed with the dancers hopping around in a circular motion while one hand supports the body.

A routine usually ends with a freeze, a full stop in an interesting and often difficult position. This usually means suspending one's body with feet off the ground and supported by the hands or the torso. A suicide is another way to end a routine. This involves a painful-looking drop to the buttocks, back, or stomach. The desired effect is for the dancers to look like they injured themselves.

Today, breakdancing has gained international recognition and has become popular in Europe and Asia. Annual competitions are held in Germany, Britain, Japan, and the United States. It has also inspired fashion trends and has been featured in a number of movies, music videos and TV shows.

Power Training

Many of you must be thinking that to work your abdominals, you have to do typical targeted ab exercises like sit ups or crunches, etc. These ab exercises are good at targeting your abs area. However, there are actually some exercises out there that can actually benefit more to your abs than those typical abs workouts.

I will be showing you three of the best exercises that can indirectly work out your abs and also at the same time work your whole body which increases your metabolism. You will notice that these three exercises that I will show you do not include any specific abs workout that targets directly on your abs.

The three best indirect abs workout are as follows:

1) Push up dumbbell Row
The starting position requires you to hold two dumbbells in your hand and go into a push up position. Stabilize the starting position with both hands on the dumbbell and maintain your back straight. Next, while holding the dumbbell, lift your left dumbbell to your body and use your another hand to stabilize the action. Then, slowly bring the dumbbell back to the floor and repeat it with another hand. When you are reading this, you will be thinking where it works the abs right? Well, You will be working on your abs when you are stabilizing your action. You will definitely feel your abs having effect with this workout.

2) Barbell Front Squats
The starting position will be similar to the back squats. First, place the barbell in front of your shoulder and stabilize it. Then, slowly cross your arms and grab hold of the barbell by laying your hands on the barbell itself. Your elbow should be facing forward instead of facing down. The starting position can be tough at first but once you get used to it, it will be very easy. Next, slowly while stabilizing the barbell, concentrate on lowering your butt down while keeping your knees bend. Then slowly bring yourself up to the starting position. Even though this exercise is training your leg muscles, you will feel that you are actually using a lot of stabilizing strength from the abs too.

3) Leg Shuffle
This is similar to some break-dance move you have seen else where. First, go into the push up position and then shift your left feet inward so that your knees are below your chest area. Then, shift back to the push up position. Repeat it with another leg. For more advance, you can do one or two push ups every repetition to make it more challenging. You will find that your abs will be soaring after this workout.

To get the best effect, you should do a minimum of 3 sets of 10 reps per workout. The rest time in between sets should not be more than 30 seconds.

These are 3 of the best abs workout that indirectly helps to build your abs plus gives you a full body workout. Try it and I am sure you will feel the effect.

ENJOY

Can a self-taught Dancer become a Dancer on a Tv ?

Being a naturally talented dancer has its benefits as well as downfalls. The benefits are that you can of course already dance your own way without needing too much help. The downside is that being naturally gifted stops many dancers from going to dance classes and learning other skills.

Many dance jobs and auditions specify for the dancers to be skilled in particular dance styles whether it's commercial dance or breakdance. So if you're self taught and learnt all your moves by watching MTV videos can you become a dancer on TV as well?

The answer is yes you can - but you make it 100 times harder for yourself than if you trained in some other dance styles as well. Most dance auditions will teach a dance routine or choreography in a particular dance style. If you've never been to a single dance class in your life you're unlikely to pick it up and perform it at the required standard.

The chance you have of dancing on TV will arise mainly from freestyle dance auditions. If an audition has choreography and freestyle they'd usually expect you to be good at both. However at freestyle only auditions there is no choreography so you're free to let loose.

The disadvantage you have over trained dancers at freestyle auditions is that you'll be dancing your own way and whoever is judging the audition may not be able to pinpoint your dance style. Many judges like to know what they're seeing - if only for their own ego boost!

However if your freestyle is truly amazing and they like you then there is no reason why you cannot get the same parts that trained professional dancers are also auditioning with you for.

If you are a self-taught dancer with aspirations of dancing on TV or in music videos you would be strongly advised to go to a dance college or start training at a dance studio though. By being able to pick up choreographies in different styles and learning the subtleties of each one you'll become a better dancer.

If you train at dance classes and dance studios and are able to pick up choreography you of course give yourself many more opportunities. You'll be able to attend more auditions which of course means you'll have a better chance of getting more jobs.

Also the new moves and skills that you learn in the classes you'll be able to incorporate into your freestyle also and make your freestyle even better. So if you just want to try your luck then you can use your current skills, but if you want to make a real go of it start training at your local dance studio!

How to do Freeze ! Breakdance Freeze week

Freeze ! (breakdance move)

A freeze is a breakdance technique that involves halting all body motion, often in an interesting or balance-intensive position. It is implied that the position is hit and held from motion as if freezing in motion, or into ice. Freezes often incorporate various twists and distortions of the body into stylish and often difficult positions.

Spins are often combined with freezes, and the spins are usually done in the form of kicks. Various handstands ("inverts", "Nikes", and "pikes") can be frozen, and skilled breakers sometimes incorporate the technique of threading into handstands by forming a loop with one arm and leg, then "threading" the other leg in and out of the loop.
